Hadestown description
Hadestown returns to London five years after its sold-out run at the National Theatre in 2018 with a run at the Lyric Theatre in early 2024. A smash hit on Broadway, Hadestown is both a Grammy and Tony Award-winning musical that originated from an indie theatre project and acclaimed album by Anaïs Mitchell. The cast album is still one of the most streamed of all time with over 340 million streams to date.
Directed by Rachel Chavkin, Hadestown begins its run at the Lyric Theatre in February 2024.
What's the plot of Hadestown?
Hadestown reveals a fresh new version of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice is a young girl who's starving, desperate for food. She starts work in a hellish new version of the Greek underworld to get away from her poverty-stricken life. But the underworld isn't what she expected, and when her equally poverty-stricken boyfriend Orpheus comes to rescue her, things get tricky. According to Forbes, this is 'An epic celebration of music, togetherness and hope'. The New York Times calls it 'Sumptuous. Gorgeous. As good as it gets.' Not to be missed!
